seas	plains	isthmus	South
oceans	plateaus	capes	North
channels	valleys	islands	East
BUT NOT:
lakes	mounts / peaks	canyons	island (singular)

*Proper names such as "San Francisco Bay" do not use "the".  (e.g. San Francisco Bay is located in northern California.)  Use an article when referring to a specific bay:   The San Francisco bay is being studied by biologists.)
